Back in the 1970's, a young man named Dick Hayne planted a seed in the maze of streets and trees that make up West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He opened a store and called it Free People. Free People nurtured the young people who lived there and shopped there, who looked for a little of their own freedom in the clothes they wore. As Dick's store grew from one to two, the name was changed from Free People to Urban Outfitters. During 2001, we realized that it was really Free People that invoked some of our favourite images, those of femininity, courage, and spirit. It was time to get back to our roots. Free People shed its junior image and evolved into a more mature, contemporary brand.

KC Arts is a family-run business, in operation for over 33 years. Our store was founded by two art students who opened the shop in the beautiful Cobble Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn in the early 1980s. As local artists they saw a lack of helpful and knowledgeable staff in local department stores. They opened the shop with intent to fill that void. Through years of experience in the Custom Picture Framing and Art supply industry KC Arts has built close relationships with customers. Our team at KC Arts spends time getting to know what's important to you so we can deliver on your needs and wishes, time and again.

Ample Hills Creamery began as a cart at Celebrate Brooklyn in Prospect Park (the little pushcart that could). On Memorial Day weekend in 2011, Ample Hills opened its first scoop shop in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. Within the first four days, we sold out completely! The scoop shop had to close for a few weeks just so we could churn more. (Is there such a thing as being *too* popular?) Fast forward to today: We own and operate the largest ice cream production facility in New York City. We have locations on both coasts. Folks all over the country can try our flavors by ordering online. You can even find our pints in grocery stores. In the decade since our opening, we've grown a lot, learned a lot and churned a lot... so we don't sell out again. But our mission hasn't changed.

From their Web site: AYAT is a bistro where you will find honest, authentic Palestinian food made with love. I am confident you will find this here because this bistro was created in honor of my wife, Ayat. She is a Palestinian lawyer with a real passion for food. Ayat is honest, hardworking, and loves her career; but there is a different kind of love that radiates through her when she is cooking. Seeing this passion in her and experiencing her delicious food, it was clear to me that the community needed to experience this too. So I created a bistro named after her where she can come to cook with local ingredients sourced from our FalahiFarms. Space where she can share her passion for food with the community she loves and works hard for.

Angelo Montemarano and his wife, Filomena opened "Angelo's Tavern" in 1906. The Montemaranos grew produce in the backyard and lived with their children in an upstairs apartment. Angelo's was a speakeasy during prohibition, with a chute to the basement in case the staff needed to dispose of the bottles ahead of a police raid. In the late 30's, with Angelo's son Nick Monte running things, Angelo's received a massive facelift and became Monte's Venetian Room (Monte and Montemarano are variations on the same family name) Despite the name, most cooking was solidly Neapolitan. The new more elaborate design featured red booths and painted murals of Venice on the walls. Monte's became both a well-kept secret and a legendary hangout; a neighborhood restaurant beloved by the Rat Pack, the mob, politicians and just about anyone. The food is truly Italian but not focusing on one region in particular. We welcome everyone to come and enjoy our authentic Italian cuisine and cozy atmosphere!

Milanese-born Brooklyn restaurateur, Edoardo Mantelli, has long admired the Viennese-style cafes of fin-de-siècle Milan and the cultural influence they had on his native city. In Saraghina Caffè, he's lovingly recreated the sense of grace and grandeur found in these beloved institutions, where heated exchanges about the origins of the Negroni were cooled by a refreshing Spritz (Campari, per favore, not Aperol). More than places to stop for a drink, these caffè were cultural hearts of their neighborhoods, where poets and artists would find their next inspiration while nibbling on well-aged prosciutto di Parma.

The reoccurring theme from the movie Field of Dreams was, "if you build it, they will come." Steve always kept this idea in mind when he started baking his key lime pies commercially, that if he bakes an authentic key lime pie, using only the finest and freshest ingredients available, that they '—the discriminating consumer of culinary delights'— would come to embrace his efforts. The one thing that will never change is Steve's commitment to using only 100% fresh-squeezed key lime juice, something that started when Steve began baking key lime pies for family and friends over 30-years ago.

The history of the space occupied by The Longshoreman is the stuff of local legend. In the 1940s and 50s, older neighbors say the space was a bar called "The Longshoreman" owned and operated by a fellow, aptly named, Punchie, and it serviced the longshoremen with after-hours beverages a few blocks from their place of work, The Brooklyn dockyards. The docks have evolved into the Brooklyn Bridge Park, high-rise condos, and the cycling/walking paths of the waterfront. In tribute to days gone by, the new owners kept the name The Longshoreman. The Longshoreman was designed by architect Carlo Perry, in collaboration with the owners, Michelle Ewan and Lisa Detwiler. The Longshoreman is a casual, neighborhood-friendly modern Italian restaurant guaranteed to become a destination location.

Two Boots -- named for the geographical shapes of Italy and Louisiana -- was born on June 24th, 1987. Founders Doris Kornish & Phil Hartman, indie filmmakers who loved Cajun food and culture (Phil having opened the Great Jones Café, a Cajun juke joint, in 1983), teamed up with local developer John Touhey, to create the original Two Boots Restaurant, a family-friendly, full-service restaurant at 37 Ave A in NYC's East Village. Two Boots Park Slope aims to carry on the tradition of Two Boots Brooklyn, which had a great run of 24+ years (1989-2014). John Touhey, our original partner, moved to Park Slope in 1989, and wanted to open a branch in his new 'hood. Two Boots Brooklyn went on to become a neighborhood favorite, with live music, a full bar, a kids step-up to the pizza station and a broad menu that included Cajun favorites. In October 2013, TB Brooklyn closed, but in November of 2014, a new incarnation of Two Boots opened in Park Slope at 5th Ave. & 1st St., featuring Two Boots pizza, plus sliders, po' boys, salads and a great selection of tap beers. And the Home Pie, "The Hogwallop," honors local resident John Turturro for his role in the great film "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"

Though it is only one-third of a mile long, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade is one of the most famous and recognizable landmarks in the borough. Though one might not be familiar with the Promenade itself, anyone familiar with images of the Manhattan skyline taken from east of the island is most likely very familiar with the unparalleled vantage point provided by the Promenade. The site of the Promenade and the area's naturally elevated position attracted settlers to the spot from as early as the seventeenth century. When Robert Moses designed and constructed the BQE in the 1940s, he included the Promenade in his design. The Promenade draws artists, tourists, and locals to marvel at the view of the harbor and skyline, and enjoy one of the world's most iconic vistas. Now a fully integrated part of Brooklyn Bridge Park, the Promenade is accessible via an elevated footpath from the Park below and from entrances on either end.

Mission sprouts in Red Hook, with continued focus on providing serious martial arts instruction for all ages. Claudine Missale, Head Instructor and 5th Degree Black Belt, brings 25+ years of training and 10+ years of professional instruction for children of all ages (2½ to 14+) from Mission's flagship location and several satellite schools around Brooklyn and Manhattan. The interdisciplinary background of both Pat Natoli and Claudine Missale allows for other traditional martial arts to feature during classes, in addition to Tae-Kwon-Do. Against the current of hyper-commercialized martial arts schools, Mission remains dedicated to the practice and practical application of Chung-Do-Kwon Tae-Kwon-Do, as a part of the vast World Martial Arts Association, a nationally-recognized martial arts organization. Expansion of Mission and many other businesses into Red Hook indicates the spectacular growth seen in the community over the past decade.

At the time, the Alpine Theatre was the first Loew's theatre anywhere with its entire seating capacity (2,200) on one floor, without a balcony or gallery. The tapered auditorium was 100 feet at its widest, with the last of the 55 rows of seats about 76 feet from the screen. The stage had no fly gallery or grid-iron, but had an apron just large enough to accommodate a vocalist or musical instrumentalist between film showings. Alpine Cinemas eight theaters make current movies come alive as massive screens merge with Dolby Digital sound to keep each crowd of 200 or more immersed in the action. The signature theater injects even more realism with roomy stadium seats and 3-D capabilities that add an extra dimension without having to bring a 20-foot friend to act out the movie. Before shows, guests can stock up on refreshments at the snack bar equipped with savory popcorn and bubbly soda.

As a result, it was named as one of the ten best jazz clubs in the country by Playboy magazine as well as the second best World Music venue nationwide by the readers of About.com. Barbès has also been an active presenter of Western classical music, improvised music, Americana, and just about any kind of quality music that will suit its small backroom.

Pioneer Works is an artist-run cultural center that opened its doors to the public, free of charge, in 2012. Imagined by its founder, artist Dustin Yellin, as a place in which artists, scientists, and thinkers from various backgrounds converge, this "museum of process" takes its primary inspiration from utopian visionaries such as Buckminster Fuller, and radical institutions such as Black Mountain College. "Pioneer Works encourages radical thinking across disciplines by providing practitioners a space to work, tools to create, and a platform to exchange ideas that are free and open to all. We are driven by the realization that humanity is facing unprecedented social, intellectual, and spiritual challenges; our programs explore new ways of facing those challenges by using the arts and sciences dynamically as both a lens and catalyst. When humanity comes together and combines the ideas and talents of many, we have the ability to engineer what once appeared to be impossible."
